American companies have, for
decades, sent their managers and executive to the stables: horses are masters at
observing their two-legged counterparts and drawing conclusions from the tiniest
signals.
Horse training for managers is a
till-now little known, but very interesting and effective way of testing and
improving one's leadership qualities.
The horse as medium brings to light
things that can be hidden during classical management role-playing by skilful
maneuvers: uncertainty, arrogance, thirst for power, overzealousness. A manager
may sense the one weakness or the other in his behaviour as a leader: the horse
raises it to consciousness.
The horse is the ideal coach:
non-judgemental and perfectly clear -l ike a good friend - mirroring one's
accustomed behaviour.
Horses accept honesty, trust, and
strength; and only follow a leader who knows where he is headed and is certain
of the way.
Horses are unsparing in revealing
indecisive leadership. The horse ignores confusing information; it responds to
pressure with resistance.
